STRONG GCSE RESULTS FROM WETHERBY HIGH

With results highlighting positive progress across a range of subjects at Wetherby High School, students have collected a set of strong GCSEs. Attainment in English and Maths has increased, with attainment in English going from 65 per cent last year to 74 per cent, and attainment in Maths going from 69 per cent to 70 per cent. The pass rates of Science subjects are very strong, with Chemistry at 94 per cent, Biology at 92 per cent, and Physics at 87 per cent. Thai boxing champion Rachael MacKenzie has been showing some Wetherby High School students just what it takes to be an elite athlete, as they learned and practised some of the skills of her sport. Rachael is a senior athlete mentor with the Sky Sports ‘living for sport’ programme, which aims to develop students’ lives through sport as part of the Sky Academy. Taking the scheme to Wetherby High School, students in Year 9, Year 10, and Year 11, took part in three sessions across the morning, learning technique and putting into practice punches, kicks, and defensive moves. Yorkshire Ale Trail – Yorkshire Day August 1st at the Ings, Wetherby

The Yorkshire Ale Trail is an exciting new event to hit Wetherby!   The event is a large scale outdoor beer festival to be held on Saturday 1st August (Yorkshire Day)  at The Ings, Wetherby. The beer festival is being run by the same team that organises the Wetherby Food Festival which brought in over 9,500 visitors back in July 2014.   Four local breweries will be attending namely Rudgate, Collingham, Wharfedale & Hambleton Breweries serving some of the best ales around, all brewed right here in Yorkshire! There will also be pimms & prosecco available as well as a cider bar.
